We take an objective approach in rating hotels. For any particular hotel, we consider a wide range of factors, including independent industry ratings, media recognition, customer feedback and personal evaluations by the Air New Zealand Vacations team.
Because we take great pride in the objective nature of our ratings system, we neither take business considerations into account when computing any given rating, nor do we use ratings as a negotiating strategy with suppliers.
Air New Zealand Vacations star ratings represent the quality of accommodations and service at each hotel. The ratings help you compare different properties at the same destination. Please note that ratings will differ from country to country, and this rating guide may differ from other rating systems.
- 5 Star
You can expect luxurious facilities, exclusive service and a high standard of comfort. Generally 5 star hotels and resorts have a high staff-to-guest ratio, gourmet dining and 24-hour room service. Rooms offer ample space, quality furnishings and décor, premium bedding and many room amenities. Many 5 star resorts have on-site spa services, pool and fitness facilities.
- 4 Star
When quality, hospitality and service are important, these properties generally offer a variety of dining options and room service. Rooms have a high standard of furnishings, quality bedding and a wide array of guest facilities. You may also expect guest services such as concierge service and valet parking.
- 3 Star
For comfort and a wider range of guest facilities. Restaurants/cafes, swimming pool and gift shops are generally offered. Rooms will have a good standard of furnishings and bedding with limited guest facilities.
- 2 Star
When budget and some guest facilities are important, this is clean, basic accommodation. Rooms generally offer private bathrooms, telephone, TV and limited guest facilities.
- 1 Star
When you're budget conscious, this is clean, no-frills accommodation. Hotel facilities such as restaurants and bars may be limited. Generally the rooms are small and functionally decorated. They may not have guest facilities such as a private bathroom, in-room telephone, TV or radio.
- Half Star Ratings
We have included half-star ratings in our guide. With the great variety of property types, room amenities and facilities across a wide variety of destinations, the addition of a half star rating helps distinguish between individual properties.
